The Texas Association of Child Care Resource and Referral Agencies (TACCRRA) has compiled a Child Care Portfolio including county-by-county profiles for each of the 254 counties in Texas. The Portfolio presents a snapshot of information on total and child population, family demographics, early care and education programs, child care facilities and child care rates.
TACCRRA’s objective in presenting this information is to provide a helpful data compilation to community and regional planners, workforce development boards, corporate leaders, and those who shape public policy at all levels of government. Further, it is hoped that county comparisons and analysis of the data will be instructive to local and regional planning efforts. The reader should be reminded that that the data represents a snapshot in time and therefore may vary from other reported data.
The Variable Definitions and Sources document, included herein, provides the key to the data for each county. Primary data sources are: Texas Kids Count, Center for Public Policy Priorities; U.S. Census Bureau; the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services; the Children’s Learning Institute, University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston; and the local child care resource and referral agencies from across Texas that are members of TACCRRA.
TACCRRA is appreciative to the staff from the seven member agencies in Austin, Dallas, El Paso, Fort Worth, Houston, Lubbock and San Antonio for their support in the collection of data; Nancy Hard, President/CEO of Family Service Association of San Antonio, for her leadership in the development of this Portfolio; and Elizabeth Chanoine, Jackie Powers, Sherrie Routin, Verla Johnson and Sul Ross for researching, compiling and formatting the data. We also wish to thank Aaron Carrara and Metropolitan Montessori Schools, Inc. for the web design and management for the Portfolio.
Who is TACCRRA? – The Texas Association of Child Care Resource and Referral Agencies is a statewide network of member agencies, founded in 1990, representing child care resource and referral (CCR&R) agencies, early childhood education programs, and other agencies and organizations interested in promoting the development, maintenance and expansion of quality child care services in Texas. TACCRRA provides a forum for communication, information sharing, and networking and collaboration to assist local CCR&R agencies in providing guidance to parents, child care providers, policy makers and business and community leaders. |
